This post is coming a little late cause I’ve been super busy this week! I enrolled in a week-long makeup course with Mamen Peinado. Mamen is a famous Spanish makeup artist and she’s been doing makeup for about 30 years now.
Most of my makeup knowledge comes from the internet and from practice, so I wasn’t sure about the course. In the end I decided to go for it because it was an opportunity to learn, and today I’m here to tell you if I think it’s worth it or not.
This specific course consists on learning about professional makeup for TV, film and also current makeup trends.
My classes have been very dynamic and I’ve been able to practice on a lot of different faces. I’ve created several different looks and I’ve been working with different product’s than the ones I’m used to.
I’ve learned a few new pro-tips and tricks but overall, most of the things we’ve been covering, I already knew about.
Don’t get me wrong, Mamen is fantastic and I love her work. She’s a great teacher and she’s awesome to hang out with. I’ve had amazing fun! But the content of the course isn’t something completely new to me and I feel like it didn’t challenge me as much as I would have wanted it to.
Honestly, if I were to turn back time I’m not entirely sure I’d invest in this course again.
You can definitely learn about these topics online without having to pay anything. That’s how I actually learned how to do makeup and that’s how a lot of people are learning how to do it nowadays.
So, do we actually need these clases/courses?
If you’re a beginner and know nothing about makeup, then something like this can definitely benefit you! But if you have a lot of makeup experience I don’t think you need to invest on something like this.
Everybody develops their own style over time with practice and I think it’s the same with the artists that teach these classes. They teach their prefered method. And while that works for some people, others perfer other techniques.
And that’s the cool thing about the internet, in my opinion. Everybody uses different tecniques and you can easily learn about them and use the one that works for you. It might not be as ‘professional‘ and ‘correct‘ but it’s out there and it’s free!
I might be a bit biased, but I don’t think there’s a need to invest in makeup classes/courses when you can learn the exact same things for free!
But that is just MY opinion!
Do you guys agree? Disagree? As always, let me know!
Thanks for reading!
Lots of love,
