I love lipstick more than I love people. And I probably have more lipstick than friends. I’m totally okay with that. What I’m not okay with, is how much I suck at applying it. And I figured -I hope- that I’m not the the only one in the planet with this problem. I’ve collected some tips and tricks throughout my lipstick application practice that have really helped me improve.
If you want to know what they are, stay tuned!
What You’ll Need
- Q Tips are crucial when it comes to perfecting your lipstick application. These will make your life a thousand times easier.
- Concealer/Foundation is great for when you’ve smudged lipstick out of your lip line and stained your skin.
- A Lip Brush will free you of all lipstick problems, seriously. If you aren’t using one, you need to get one ASAP.
- A Flat Synthetic Brush will help you get a clean precise line and hide the lipstick stains on the skin around your lips.
- Lip Liner is the way to go if you don’t really know how to apply lipstick yet. They help you get a more precise application around the edges and you can blend the lipstick on top of it.
Tip #1 Q Tips
What this ‘technique’ consists on is to use a Q Tip to clean the edges of your lipstick. Grab a clean Q Tip and run it along the areas where you effed up your lipstick. It’s that simple. This tip works most effectively when you’re using nude lipstick. Simply because a nude doesn’t really stain your skin, so it’s easy to remove.
Tip # 2 Lip Liner
The easiest thing to do when it comes to lip liner, is to match it exactly with the lipstick. But if you don’t have a matching lipliner to whatever lipstick you’re using, find one that’s as similar to the color as possible.
This is the easiest thing ever. Just line your lips with the liner and then apply the lipstick on top. I used to not wear lipliner but when I discovered how easy it was to apply lipstick after it, I was sold. And if you make a mistake -which will happen- just erase it with a Q Tip or concealer. It’s that simple.
Tip #3 Concealer
With a flat brush like the one in the picture, grab a tiny amount of concealer. The easiest way to ensure a clean, crisp line is by holding the brush sideways and flat. This means that we’ll use the brush sideways, not by the tip. Every time you go in with concealer make sure to clean your brush, we don’t want lipstick smeared all over the place. Once you’re done erasing the mistakes make sure to blend the concealer out. Do so carefully, that way the line will stay sharp but the concealer won’t be noticeable.
What about liquid lipsticks?
If you’re like me, applying liquid lipstick is a pain in the butt. But I’ve found a way to make it a little easier.
Even though a lot of people don’t line their lips when applying liquid lipstick, I would recommend you do so. Just like when you apply normal lipstick, having that line can guide and make things easier for you .
Now we can start off at the edges with our handy dandy lip brush. I like to work with small amounts of product, and just like the concealer technique, using the brush flat. The bottom lip is usually quite easy but the top lip is a bit trickier. When it comes to the top lip start from the edge up. It’s a lot easier than trying to make it even, starting from the cupids bow. Remember if you mess up you can use the tips I already gave you. Last but not least you just need to fill the center of the lip. You can either do this with the brush or the wand of the product, it’s up to you.
And those are the tricks that have helped me suck less at applying lipstick. You might not get it right straight away but the more you practice, the easier it will become. If you have any other tips or tricks that have worked for you make sure to share them. Also comment what types of blogposts you would like for me to do, it will help me get a better idea of what you guys want to see.
Much love ❤
