During the past few months liquid lipsticks have become a big deal in the cosmetics industry, but are they worth all of the hype? It seems like more and more brands, drugstore and high end, are coming up with their own idea of a liquid lipstick and everyone is crazy about them. Today I want to share what I think about them and show you guys different options you have when it comes to buying them.
Personally I love the idea of liquid lipsticks. I love the idea of putting something on in the morning and by the time I get back home from school it’s still there looking almost intact. I have very dry lips naturally, and if you do too, it’s really important to moisturize your lips right before you apply your liquid lipstick because most formulas cling to those dry patches and can make your lips look like a hot mess. Other than that tiny detail, I find liquid lipsticks to be ideal for your every day gal.
Over the last year I have collected a wide variety of liquid lipsticks and I’ve tried several different brands as well. I find that some brands work better with my lips than others, so I wanted to give you, the reader, an idea of what brand and formula of liquid lipsticks might work better for you.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
Let’s start of with my favorite formula and color range. What I love about this particular formula is that even though it dries matte it doesn’t dry out my lips. In fact, when I wear it, it’s like I have nothing on my lips. These liquid lipsticks dry fast and once they’re on your lips they will not move, you can eat, drink, and you’ll have no problem with them. The color range is very unique and colorful, there’s something for everyone.
Stila Stay all day Liquid Lipstick
A lot of people seem to love the formula of these, but it doesn’t work very well on me. The texture resembles mousse when you swatch it on your hand but when you start applying it on your lips it’s super runny. It also takes forever to dry. The color range is very limited but the shades in it are quite nice. The shade that I picked up does not flatter me at all and it applies very patchy. These are also very drying once they set, but they do last all day like the name suggests.
OCC Lip Tars
OCC lip tars were one of the first liquid lipsticks to ever exist. Unlike the previous liquid lipsticks that I’ve showed you, this one isn’t matte. They have various finishes and matte is one of them but what I have to show you today is more on the glossy side. When applying the product a little drop goes a long way and the pigmentation is amazing. Whenever I use it, it starts to separate after a while and it looks really bad. It also bleeds outside of your lips. OCC sells a primer made specifically for the lip tars and I found that when you use both of them in conjunction it works a little better. The color range on this product is infinite and if there’s a specific color that you want or need, no matter how crazy it is, OCC is the way to go.
Too Faced Melted Lipsticks
The formula on these is very creamy and they don’t dry to a matte finish either. The finish on these is not super glossy either, it’s right in the middle. The product is very long lasting but it does transfer so if you’re drinking or eating something expect lipstick to go everywhere. What I like about the formula is that it’s not drying and even if you talk, eat or drink you won’t have to reapply it. Recently Too Faced launched the Melted Metal Collection and I’m really excited to try them out!
NYX Soft Matte lip cream
These are the only drugstore alternative that I have in my collection of liquid lipsticks and the formula is one of my favorites; not too runny, not too dry. I find it super easy to wear and I can even put some lip balm and then go over it with the product and it still works beautifully. These dry matte but they don’t last as long as some of the other options I’ve showed you. If you build it up to much it can look kind of patchy but with two or three coats you get great color payoff. If you want to try liquid lipsticks but you aren’t willing to pay $20 for one, the soft matte lip creams are a great choice.
Lime Crime Velvetines
This is another formula that a lot of people love and I don’t understand why. On me the formula looks really patchy and it clings to my dry lips. I do like the applicator on the product because it’s very small and it works very well with my small mouth. I find that the product moves around a lot and it bleeds outside of your lip line almost instantly. The product dries fast so you have to be quick when working with it. The color range is very unique and I would recommend this product to people with lips that aren’t dry naturally.
Makeup Forever Aqua Rouge waterproof liquid lip color
I really, really like the look that this gives to my lips. It dries fast and the color lasts for ages. It’s a little bit hard to remove. You don’t need a lot of coats with this product because the pigmentation is amazing. It does’t dry out my lips and even though it dries matte it comes with a clear gloss that you can put on top of it to give it a different finish.
Hourglass Liquid Lipstick
The formula of the product isn’t as good as I would like it to be. It’s not drying on the lips but it’s not opaque enough. And if you want to layer it, it will start looking like a hot mess in no time. The wear of these isn’t long at all. Once you eat or drink you can say goodbye to most of the color and the only thing you’re left with is that disgusting ring of product on your lips. The color range on the product is very limited as well. For the price of this I was expecting a lot more, to be honest.
I hope this gave you a better idea on what to buy according to your needs. If you’ve tried other liquid lipsticks make sure to comment what you think of them in the comment section.
See you guys next time!
P.S. I’m sorry for the late update but I’ve been sick for the past week and I had to catch up with a lot of things 😦
